Matteo Piras is an extraordinary athlete who represents the Italian National Judo Team in the 66 kg category. Currently, he holds a prominent position in the World Ranking List, placing among the top eight athletes in the world, showcasing his exceptional skills and potential. Recently, at the Judo World Championships in Abu Dhabi, he achieved an excellent fifth place, securing his Olympic Pass for Paris 2024.
Matteo's accomplishments are remarkable. Nationally, he has won the Italian Championship title five times, demonstrating consistency and dominance in his weight category. Internationally, he has earned two gold medals, four silver medals, and three bronze medals in prestigious World Cup
circuit competitions, affirming his status as a high-performance competitor.
In addition to his commitment on the tatami, Matteo is active in the field of Mental Coaching, mentoring national-level athletes and imparting the principles and experiences he has gained throughout his career. With a combination of talent, determination, and dedication, Matteo Piras continues to be a formidable force in the world of judo. Now, all hopes are pinned on the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where the Italian is expected to be among the top contenders in his weight category.

1. After achieving fifth place at the last World Championships and qualifying for the Olympics, what were your emotions?
"The emotion is indescribable with words: the culmination of a dream pursued for 20 years makes you feel powerful, effective, and capable of conquering the world."
2.Your experience on and off the tatami has influenced your choices and decisions to reach this goal. Can you tell us about this?
"The result is only the consequence of who you are off the tatami, in everyday life. Being to do and doing to be: that is the formula."
3.Let's talk about your work as a Mental Coach. How do you think your example can help so many young athletes?
"I often deal with issues related to the frustration of not achieving the desired result. I believe that a young athlete of 17, 18, or 19 years old can look at me and see a person who competed in their first Senior World Championship at 29, the first Senior European Championship at 30, and the first Olympics at 31. This means that there is always time, everything happens at the right moment when it is supposed to happen!"
4.What do you think of the Backstage project and its support for young sports talents?
